Su Turner: Designated a National Leader of Governance for the DfE

Updated: Oct 26, 2021

We are delighted to announce that Su Turner, our Founder and Director, has been designated as a National Leader of Governance (NLG) by the Department for Education (DfE).

NLGs are a key part of the Department for Education’s programme of Governance support for the school sector, and vital part of leadership and management in schools. Effective Governance leads to better support and challenge to school leaders, which leads to better decisions, which leads to better education for all children.

As an NLG, Su will work directly with schools and trusts helping them to navigate through governance challenges, and in providing leadership support, governance expertise, and External Reviews of Governance.

Su has a proven track record of governance improvement in local and national settings, having previously worked for a Good Governance Charity, and since 2017, leading Insight to Impact Consulting Ltd to become a leader in the field of governance. Su has worked on exciting governance projects, including developing a national STEM governance framework for the DfE, creating the award-winning Shaping Governance™️, and in supporting Multi-Academy Trusts to restructure and improve effectiveness. Su has been a governor in schools (Primary, secondary and PRU's) for over 15 years, and is also currently a Non Executive Director in the Health and Private Sectors.

Su said, 'I am thrilled to have been appointed as an NLG, and am looking forward to bringing my inclusive approach to governance improvement to the role. Governors are volunteers and I am very much looking forward to working with schools to help their Governing Boards to be the best that they can for the children that they work for'.
