EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GOVERNANCE

The Department for Education highly recommends that governing boards should regularly self-reflect, and there are many ways in which boards can review their effectiveness.

As Insight to Impact is a reflective organisation, we strongly recommend that Governors, at least annually, reflect on what they have done, how they operate and what they need to do next.  Regular self reflection not only helps to develop an improvement plan, but it helps to keep governors knowledge and skills up to date and fresh.

External Reviews of Governance

External Reviews of Governance are a powerful tool for improving governance in your school. As an experienced governor and National Leaders of Governance, Su Turner will support you and your governing board in identifying areas of strength to build on, and areas for development, leaving you with a focused action plan to support your next steps in moving your governing board towards good or outstanding practice.

External Reviews of Governance are available as a response to an Ofsted recommendation, or for any governing board wanting to reflect and improve; and follow guidance developed nationally.

The External Review of Governance process includes a desk top review of governing paperwork, one to one meetings with headteacher, clerk, chair and as many other governors as possible and a full governing board self-review session.  Following this, the school receives a report of the board's strengths and areas for development, and an action plan to improve governance practice within the school or academy.
